Perspectives

Walking my son to school the other day, I admired the moon in the morning sky. It was clear, and the image was crisp. I pulled my phone out to take a picture, but as I focused my camera on the moon, I noticed the appearance dull on the screen. As I took the picture, I said to myself: “Ugh, the camera just can’t capture the beauty my eyes can.”

At that moment, I was reminded of a post I saw some time ago. It stated that we should see the beauty of everything, including ourselves, even when a camera doesn’t capture it. It made me think about my perspective. I trusted my eyes when I looked at the moon and not what the phone’s camera captured, but when I look in a mirror, I am my greatest critic, ignoring all the beauty that is me.

This also makes me think about how people say the camera adds ten pounds. The camera’s perspective is not total truth. There are unlimited perspectives, but the only perspective that matters is your perspective. So, when you find yourself criticizing pictures of yourself, change your perspective and tell yourself that the camera couldn’t capture the beautiful image of you.

The moon doesn’t rely on us to see its beauty. It is the moon, and the perspectives of others do not matter. The same should go for when we think of ourselves. We are beautiful just for existing, and what others think does not detract from our natural beauty.

If you notice flaws when you look in a mirror, remind yourself that the mirror just can’t capture the essence of your beauty that you know yourself to have.
