Equanimity

Listen

I haven’t been myself lately. I have been sluggish and feeling exhausted– both mentally and physically. I continued to try and keep up with my every day tasks and found that I was not performing at the best of my ability.

Recently, I found myself telling my mother to listen to her body and rest when it tells her to rest. This weekend, I finally listened to my own advice and took time out for myself. I had began to feel sick so I knew I had hit my limit and had to do something before a sickness grabbed and held on to me.

We all have an internal gauge that tells us many things to help us navigate through life. Our problem is that we think our waking mind knows more and we ignore warning signs of impending doom and occasionally, pleasures.

The world is ever moving and we feel that we must keep up. We don’t need to keep up with the world, we simply need to keep up with ourselves. We are no good to anyone if we are sick, sad, depressed, exhausted, etc. Most of all, we are no good to ourselves when we are in these states.

Take a deep breath today and take inventory of your emotional, physical and mental state. How are you doing today? What do you need in order to get back to yourself? Ask yourself: when was the last time you did something just for me?

Listen to your body and the little voice in the back of your mind and do something for yourself.
