Equanimity, Freedom, Thoughts

Beautiful Chaos

I just began reading A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. I say this because I think it is what sparked my thoughts upon waking this morning.

I find it strange that we are the only beings in our world that feel the need to own things and other beings. We covet people and things because when we own something, we believe, no one can take that thing or person away. This way of being stems from a lack mindset and is rooted in fear. We want to hold onto things so tightly but don’t realize that we are being more harmful than helpful.

What is ownership but another word for controlling things, being, situations that are not ourselves? What is control but a word for creating attachments that go against nature?

We all have a natural rhythm and many of us ignore our authentic selves because of the hierarchy of ownership. We are born into a system and automatically owned by that system. We are assigned an ID and given all our defining information to keep us in a box.

What happens when we want to step outside the box? We are unable to love who we want. We are unable to travel where we want. We are unable to do the things our hearts desire. We are unable to be who we feel the most comfortable being.

The universe was created from chaos. Chaos is defined as complete disorder and confusion. How is it that we were created from chaos, using the basic components of energy, but we do not live in the same chaos that created out beautiful world? The chaos provides for the trees and animals. Why do we not think that we too would be provided for?

Letting go of our attachments gives into that beautiful chaos. It allows us to not live in fear but in gratitude for all the things we get to experience. Letting go of the need to control allows us to be our most authentic selves. It allows the chaos to continue to create lasting and evolving beauty.

What attachments do you have that prevents you from living as your authentic self?
