Equanimity

Internal Battles

We all have internal turmoil that we deal with on a daily basis, most times we deal with them alone.

In numerous ways, we have been conditioned to believe that we are supposed to behave in specific ways and have certain thoughts and beliefs that align with others. But I find that when I am being pushed in directions that doesn’t feel right in my soul, it causes an increase of internal turmoil.

It goes along with being conditioned to believe that there are certain people we must always allow in our lives, no matter how they behave towards us, because of the position they have- mother, father, cousin, etc.

I have been learning that the negative thoughts we have about ourselves are rooted in our inability to mold ourselves into the perfect copy of an acceptable person in society. We feel like we are not good enough because of a standard created that is essentially unobtainable for all. We feel wrong for not doing what’s expected of us, even though what we choose to do feels right.

I’m not saying that if we align with ourselves, we’ll never have internal struggles. I just know that we are the authors of our own suffering and when we try to fit into boxes meant to hide our individuality, we make life worse for ourselves.

Think about all those times you responded in an agreeable way but later beat yourself up because it wasn’t in the way you would have wanted to respond. Think about the many paths you’ve taken that ended up being dead-ends because they weren’t truly meant for you to travel.

Internal battles are part of the ego but being yourself helps win those battles.

What negative thoughts have consumed you and what can you do to become closer to your most authentic self?

I hope you find your truth!
