I was catching up with a friend recently and I was telling her about all the things I had going on. As you know, I recently returned from Scotland and Ireland. But outside of that, I went on a business trip to Washington, D.C. and am an active participant in my kids school and after school activities.
She made comment that really had me thinking about my life. She said, “It’s great that you get to travel.” Now that doesn’t sound like much but I thought for a second and respond to her in agreement.
It’s true! I never thought about the richness I’ve developed in my life. I was born in Buffalo, New York to parents that were of the lower middle class. We were stuck in that area where your income is too much for assistance but not enough to spread outside of the necessities. I didn’t travel as a kid. My first time on an airplane was when I was on my way to basic training at the age of 17. It was a very scary moment in my life.
But I have to say, no matter where I started, I have come very far from those beginning moments. This is not to be bashing my upbringing because I had a good childhood. This is to exemplify the fact that we all have a rags to riches story.
I never considered my life to be privileged but for me, it is. I am doing all the things that I have ever wanted to do but didn’t have the opportunities to make happen when I was young. I am not wealthy but I am very rich. I could not ask for a better life than the one I am living right at this moment.
Take a look at your life… What is your rags to riches story?
Going from pay check to pay check many years ago to spending whenever I want on whatever I want and not having to worry about when payday is because there is always money in the bank. What a wonderful feelingš¤
