Equanimity

Hummingbird

I wanted to share a poem I wrote after an experience in Sedona, AZ

Hummingbird

Gravity may pull us down,

Yet still our spirits rise.

The hummingbird reminds the heart

That lift begins inside.

The skies are not what carry us,

But how we choose to see.

A single thought can lift the soul,

Or weigh its wings with debris.

The world is full of weighted things

And on our minds they stay.

Yet hummingbirds release each branch

To greet another day.

We don’t choose the path of wind

Or where the currents flow.

Like hummingbirds we meet the air

And teach ourselves to go.

The hummingbird has always known

What many fail to see.

The weight we carry shapes our flight,

The sweetness sets us free.
